“The ruler of this world comes, and in Me, he has nothing” Jn. 14:30.
Let me apologize in advance for how long a study this is. It is just that there is so much that needs to be said about this. And there just so many out there who are ignorant about how they are in Christ, and that in Jesus, the role of the enemy is simply non existent. Whenever I hear a dear sister or brother in the Lord explain that the devil is attacking them because they are doing this or that, these are the things I pray that they may come to see.
I also want to apologize for focusing so long on that which has been put away. There is always a danger of becoming distracted by an academic learning, instead of the learning of Christ. Only seeing Him is transforming. The fellowship is in the Father and the Son, It is not in the things we don’t believe in, or in the loss of things that we lost in the fire, so to speak.
THE WAR IS OVER!
THE ENEMY IS DESTROYED!
Just soak that in for a moment.
The Day of the Lord is come. Today is the Day “when He comes to be glorified in His saints, and to be marveled at in all those who believe in that Day, because our testimony to you was believed” 2 Thess. 1:10.
Paul taught that a true expectation of the manner of His coming is that He would return “IN His saints” and “IN all those who believe.” He is not describing Him coming separate from you, up in the sky, but in union with His Body the Church. He also said,
“That Day will not come unless first comes the falling away, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, the one opposing and exalting himself over everything being called God, or object of worship, so as for him “to sit in the temple of God” as God, setting forth himself, that he is God” 2 Thess. 2:3-4.
Who is this “man of sin”?
The appearing of Christ in you shows Adam to be that “man of sin”.
It was you living and being glorified instead of Jesus.
“Moses made a serpent of bronze, and lifted it up on the ensign, and it hath been, if the serpent has bitten any man, and he has looked expectingly unto the serpent of brass—he lived” Nu. 21:9
When it says he has “looked expectingly,” it is describing the gift of a certain kind of sight. It is the gift of seeing and knowing by God’s knowledge. Only this kind of looking will cause you to live in His eternal life. The heart who looks to Christ crucified in the “Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the full knowledge of Him” Eph 1:17 LITV, will see that the cross is the fulfillment of the death of the serpent. In seeing Him we see that God has declared us, all of the first man Adam, to be one with the serpent, the enemy. So He has crucified that man.
Let’s look at other places in the scripture that show that the devil was shown to be the corporate head of Adam. When we see God’s view of the work of the cross, we see that the old man and the nature of that man, the devil, has now been “cast out”, even drawn into His death and executed. This work was finished when Jesus was “lifted up” on the cross.
“As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have eternal life” Jn. 3:14-15 LITV.
In this testimony, Jesus was not the one the Father saw on the cross.
It was us. His wrath was poured out on you and me, there and then. God saw our deaths there.
Why would the Father choose a serpent to represent His Son, except to show us that all mankind was put to death in Christ?
Jesus never sinned. The serpent represented you and me dying with the devil on the the cross. Jesus fulfilled this form of a serpent when He drew “all men” into the judgment of the world. This finished work of Christ is far more comprehensive than christianity has realized.
“Having judged this, that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that the living ones may live no more to themselves, but to the One having died for them and having been raised” 2 Cor. 5:15-16.
It was out from this understanding that Paul declared the Gospel.
“Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.” Rom. 6:6-7.
“Now is the judgment of this world; now the prince of this world shall be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto Me” Jn. 12:31-32 KJV
“the great dragon was cast out.” Rev. 12:9 KJV, YLT, LITV, CLV.
And so, in seeing the cross we are made to see that the cross was not only for our grace and forgiveness it was against the first man and nature of our soul, It was against our completely self-centered demonic nature.
Now if we were to just accept this intellectually, it will seem true and right, but when we are made to truly see this by the revelation of Jesus Christ, the salvation that has tasted sweet in our mouth becomes sour in our stomach. What I mean is, in seeing Him, we find ourselves completely undone, truly devastated, because we are made know the full weight of knowing we don’t just commit sins, in the old man: that is, in the identity of the first man, we are sin. We didn’t just deserve execution we all have actually have been crucified with Christ. As Paul said,
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me” Gal. 2:20.
I have actually heard the cross portrayed to be something of a set back to Gods purpose. (As if, God could be thwarted in any way) The suggestion is that in His first coming the cross was in some way a failure, but it is said, that someday Jesus will to return in a second coming to bring the victory in. But this view isn’t even close to God’s view of the finished work. Whenever Christ is revealed in you, you are made to see how the death of the cross was always God’s victory.
“That through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery”. Heb. 2:14-15 ESV
“For this purpose the Son of God was revealed, that He might destroy the works of the devil” 1Jn. 3:8.
To suggest that the works of the devil have not been destroyed is the same as saying that Jesus failed God.
It is unbelief.
It is this same unbelief that has invented a theologies to make sense of what we can see with natural sight. And so it fails to accept the truth as it is in Christ. So most christians, in ignorance, have postponed the Day of Christ, and unintentionally they also postpone the victory over the enemy:
But isn’t the devil just a fallen angel, the Bible never describes the devil as a man, Does it?
The Bible clearly describes the enemy as a man.
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this THE MAN that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms?” Isaiah 14:12-16 KJV
“You are A MAN, and not God, in the hands of him who pierces you.
You shall die the deaths of the uncircumcised, by the hand of strangers. For I have spoken, says the Lord YHWH. And the Word of YHWH was to me, saying, Son of man, lift up a lament over the king of Tyre, and say to him, So says the Lord YHWH: You seal the measure, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You have been in Eden, the garden of God. Every precious stone was your covering; the ruby, the topaz, and the jasper, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the turquoise, and the carbuncle, and gold; the workmanship of your tambourines and of your flutes in you. In the day you were created, they were prepared. You were the anointed cherub that covers, and I had put you in the holy heights of God, where you were. You walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, until iniquity was found in you” Ez. 28:9-14.
So what I am saying is, you were the devil and the devil is dead.
Another example of how the Holy Spirit shows Adam to be one with the enemy is seen in the imagery of the book of Daniel and Revelation. Nebuchadnezzar was given a dream about the destruction of a man.
“You continued looking until a stone was cut out without hands, smote the image on its feet, that are of iron and of clay, and it hath broken them small; then broken small together have been the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, and they have been made like the chaff from the summer threshing-floor, And the wind carried them away so that no place was found for them. and the stone that smote the image hath become a great mountain, and has filled all the land.” Da. 2:34
“And in the days of these kings, the God of Heaven does raise up a kingdom which is not destroyed to the age. And His kingdom is not left to another people. It breaks in pieces and destroys all these kingdoms, and it stands to the age. Because you saw that the stone cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold in pieces. The great God has made known to the king what shall occur after this. And the dream is certain, and the meaning of it is trustworthy” Da 2:44-45 YLT.
This “stone cut without hands” is the Revelation of Jesus Christ.
“Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah, for flesh and blood did not reveal it to you, but My Father in Heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of Hell will not prevail against her” Mt 16:17-18
The rock is the revelation of Christ, this is the rock that destroyed the first man Adam. How is it that the image in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream is the same image of Adam?
This takes a moment but please stay with me.
In Daniel’s second chapter, Nebuchadnezzar’s dream showed him the image of a man from head to toe. To the king this man was amazing, he was really something, but when Daniel is sees this same image in chapter seven, the kingdoms of Adam are seen in the form of unclean predatory beasts, because the life of Adam was without the Spirit. Adam most certainly did not have the Spirit, and then loose it at the fall. It doesn’t matter if God did breath a breath of life into Him. It was a kind of life that was void of Spirit. This is not the Greek word pneuma. The word is in Hebrew. He was a soul. Adam was “made a living soul.” Adam was at his essence a soul. Go ahead and look up the word in Hebrew 5315. It is same word is used of the fish and birds of the air in Genesis 1:20-21. It is the same “living soul” as the “beasts of the earth,” had Ge. 1:24. If Adam ever had a “human spirit” it entered into him at the fall. And it wasn’t God’s spirit.
“Four great beasts are coming up from the sea, diverse one from another. The first is like a lion, and it hath an eagle’s wings. I was seeing till that its wings have been plucked, and it hath been lifted up from the earth, and on feet as a man it hath been caused to stand, and a heart of man is given to it. And behold, another beast, a second, like to a bear, and to the same authority it hath been raised, and three ribs are in its mouth, between its teeth, and thus they are saying to it, Rise, consume much flesh.’After this I was seeing, and behold, another like a leopard, and it hath four wings of a fowl on its back, and four heads hath the beast, and dominion is given to it the fourth beast was frightening and terrifying, and very strong! And to it were great iron teeth. It devoured, and crushed, and stamped what was left with its feet. And it was different from all the beasts before it; and it had ten horns.” Daniel 7:3-6.
In the clarity of hindsight, we see that this lion was the kingdom of Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar saw this kingdom in the form of a head of Gold.
The bear was fulfilled by the kingdom of Mede-Persia.
Nebuchadnezzar saw this kingdom as the silver breast and arms.
The four headed leopard was Greece because Alexander left His kingdom to his four sons. Nebuchadnezzar saw this kingdom in the form of bronze belly and thighs. The fourth beast with ten horns was Rome. It had ten Caesar’s before 70 AD. (after this, God has recognized nothing of man or his kingdoms because of the work of Christ. And neither should we.) Nebuchadnezzar saw this kingdom in the form of iron legs and the iron mixed with clay. The iron/clay feet spoke of Rome’s attempts to rule Judea. Rome is the iron, and Judea was the clay.
“As you saw the iron mixed with the clay. Of the clay, they shall be mixed with the seed of men. But they shall not adhere to one another, even as iron does not mix with clay. And in the days of these kings, the God of Heaven shall set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed. And the kingdom shall not be left to other people. It shall break in pieces and destroy all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever” Daniel 2:44-45.
So when was “kingdom come” according to the second chapter of Daniel? It began “In the days of those kings”.
“The iron mixed with the clay,” was Rome’s attempt to control Judea through appointing their own priests and kings. ”But they shall not adhere to one another, even as iron does not mix with clay”. So when Rome appointed the high priests and the family of Herod as a kind of puppet king, the people rebelled during the war of the Jews AD. 67-70 AD.
“The ten horns that were on its head, and the other which came up, and before whom three fell, even that horn that had eyes, and a mouth speaking great things, and its appearance was greater than his fellows. I was looking, and that horn made war with the saints and overcame them, until the Ancient of Days came. And judgment was given to the saints of the Most High, and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom” Daniel 7:20-22.
So when did the ancient of Days come? Just after Roman persecution of the Church.
Look at how in the thirteenth chapter of the book of revelation, the Apostle John saw these four beasts all morphed into one beast. The beast He saw incorporated a single head from three of the kingdoms with the four heads of Greece and the ten horns of Rome all to make a seven headed ten horned beast which represented the reign of an Adamic beast in the earth.
I “saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. The beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority” Rev. 13:1-2.
Now lets look at Revelation Chapter twelve,
“Another sign was seen in the heavens. And, behold, a great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns! And on his heads were seven diadems, and his tail drew the third part of the stars of the heaven, and he throws them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman being about to bear, so that when she bears he might devour her child. And she bore a son, a male, who is going to shepherd all the nations with an iron staff. And her child was caught away to God, and to His throne” Rev. 12:3-5
This beast isn’t a different beast then the one we saw in chapter 13 of Revelation. And it is the same image seen in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. This is the same seven headed ten horned beast. Satan is the inward nature of the Adamic beast. He is a “red” dragon because Adam literally means “red” in Hebrew. Adam was filled with this dragon. The “Man child” is Christ being formed in the Church, the Wife of the Lamb, so that He can come again in you by the revelation of Christ, through spiritual birth.
“The great dragon was cast out, the old serpent being called devil, and, Satan; he deceiving the whole habitable world was cast out onto the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a great voice saying in Heaven, Now has come the salvation and power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ, because the accuser of our brothers is thrown down, the one accusing them before our God day and night. And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb, and because of the Word of their testimony. And they did not love their soul even until death. Because of this, be glad, the heavens and those tabernacling in them. Woe to the ones dwelling on the earth, and in the sea, because the devil came down to you having great anger, knowing that he has a little time!” Rev. 12:9-12
This “little time” was a specific time in history that is now fulfilled. And it has spoken of in other places in scripture.
“It is but a little while and the wicked shall not be; yea, you shall consider his place, and he is not” Ps 37:10.
It was during this short period of time that the Church was warned to
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” 1 Pe. 5:8
“Resist the devil, and “he will flee from you” (Jas 4:7).
The “messenger of Satan” that was Paul’s ‘thorn in the flesh’(2 Cor 12:7).
The warfare and resistance that they experienced during that time is now long fulfilled. And what was the nature of there resistance? The Truth.
If you see that you are still to be fighting the devil, you will find yourself fearful and on the wrong ground fighting an up hill battle. But when you are made to see how the enemy has been destroyed, you will stand and abide in God’s rest knowing that the battle is the Lord’s. I would like to write more about how when the thousand years ended, Satan gathered Gog and Magog. But for now time will not allow me to do these passages justice.
For now it is enough to see that all these visions describe the end of man and His kingdoms, and they show us the time that reign of kingdom of God began and the coming of the Ancient of Days appeared to destroy the tenth Caesar of Rome. Rome had ten Caesars before the destruction of Jerusalem. The sixth Caesar was Nero, he was the one who made “war against the saints” (As also did his successors). The history of this is so unmistakable. It shows the prophecy of Daniel to be so certain and trustworthy that unbelievers have made accusations that these sections of the book of Daniel are so accurate that they must have been written after these events were fulfilled.
The point is that the simple meaning of these prophecies was that God would come and set up a spiritual kingdom that would begin two thousand years ago, at the time of the occupation of the Roman Empire. The Israelites and Pharisees of Jesus’ day knew this, and rightly believed it completely. They were were so certain that the scriptures showed that the kingdom of God would shortly begin, that they were impatient with Jesus when He spoke about the coming of the Kingdom God.
“When He was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Look here! or, behold there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you” Lk. 17:20-21
But like so many modern christians, the Pharisees had no stomach for a spiritual kingdom. They would only accept the coming of a tangible king who might get the Romans off their backs, save them from a higher taxes, and make the sky to rain down sunshine and gumdrops so that no one would ever have a negative experience ever again (this is also in agreement with the modern interpretation of a future coming of Jesus).
Remember that at the beginning of book of Revelation John told us it was,
“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to show unto His servants things which must shortly come to pass” Rev. 1:1.
And again at the end of the book,
“The Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show unto His servants the things which must shortly be done. Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keeps the sayings of the prophecy of this book” Rev .22:6-7.
Whenever Christ our life appears we plainly seen that these prophecies cannot to be misconstrued to be about modern events of today, The interpretations of a future fulfillment are not in any way in keeping with “the sayings of the prophecy of this book.” Rev. 22:18-19. In His presence, all mans attempts at giving the words of Jesus and the apocalypse a double fulfillment are seen to be convoluted, egocentric, and absurd. For example, in Daniel 9:24-27 the seventy weeks were fulfilled in the cross. The prophecys were fulfilled in seventy weeks as God said they would be, not 350+ weeks. As if the angel Gabriel forgot to mention to Daniel that there was going to be a secret two thousand year “parenthetical era” that separates the 69th and 70th weeks? This is just another example of how the natural mind twists the scriptures so that they might be about us and our day instead of about Jesus. But the true need of the Church is not more teaching, another book, debate, or confident speaker who can inform the Church with the correct interpretation of these passages. The real need of every heart is to know Jesus by revelation.
“Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of His mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming” 2 Thess. ESV.
In knowing Him we are made to know the One who is the fulfillment of all things of the testimony. I do not write these things to make the scripture seem irrelevant or to make you feel bad about yourself. The purpose of the testimony is to point every heart toward the witness of Jesus Christ in you. When we see Him then we are made to be able to let go of all of the old.
“Then will come the revelation of that evil one, whom the Lord Jesus will put to death with the breath of his mouth, and give to destruction by the revelation of his coming” 2 Thess. 2:8 BBE.
The brightness of His appearing also opens a sealed Bible. And when He appears He shows Himself and His work to be the fulfillment of every jot and title written in the testimony. Yes, we see that the old man/devil is destroyed and the scriptures are fulfilled. But this hasn’t caused me to get rid of the Bible. Part of going on with Jesus is allowing Him to teach us how the letter of scripture has now been fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ. If you are truly knowing the dawning of this Day, you will be “taught of God.” You will be given Divine understanding of the scripture. As Isaiah wrote,
“To the Law and to the Testimony! If they do not speak according to this Word, it is because there is no dawn in them” Isaiah 8:20.
But there are no words that can persuade the mind of man to see this. It is only the appearing of Christ that makes the fulfillment of the testimony self-evident. The words of these prophecies are all about the Spirit of God revealing Jesus Christ in His true House and temple. And in seeing Him we see that the spirit and nature of prophecy was never at all about us, or our days but about Jesus Christ.
“For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy” Rev. 19:10
If you didn’t understand any of this be sure you get this part,
JESUS DESTROYED THE ENEMY!
THE WAR IS OVER!
GRACE AND PEACE TO YOU!
