Who is the New Creation?

“So says God, YHWH, creating the heavens, and stretching them out, Spreading out the earth and all its productions, giving breath to the people on it, And Spirit to those walking in it. I, YHWH, have called You in righteousness, And I take You by Your hand, and keep You, And I give You for a covenant of the people, And a light of the nations. To open the eyes of the blind, To bring forth from dungeons the bound ones, From the prison house those sitting in darkness. I am YHWH, this is My name, And I give not My glory to another, Nor My praise to graven images.” Isaiah 42:5-8 ELT.

God often speaks in the book of Isaiah in surprising ways. The seals are coming off this passage for me. There is such a bright newness shining in a way I never imagined.
It’s all about Jesus, of course. Jesus is the New Creation.
But more specifically God showing how the Person of Jesus is the New Creation and our New Covenant. The language of creation here isn’t God just trying to cause us to remember how He created the old heavens and the earth. He is pointing our hearts to see His Son as a New Heaven and Earth for us to abide in.

“So says God, YHWH, creating the heavens, and stretching them out, Spreading out the earth and all its productions, giving breath to the people on it, And Spirit to those walking in it.” Isaiah 42:5-6

He is declaring the Son of God to be the Head of “One New Man” Eph.2:15, and the Spiritual light of a creation who is different from the first. He is our inheritance. We are to experience Him. posses Him, and Abide in Him. He is the only Man Who brings the presence of the Spirit within Him. The Seed of God is the Newness of this land. And as we abide in Jesus, we see that He is more than the keeper of the New Covenant, He is our covenant with God. Gods purpose in revealing Him is “to bring forth from dungeons the bound ones, From the prison house those sitting in darkness.” This is a people who don’t even know they are in darkness. And there is a burden in me for them.

So what is New about the New Creation? He is ONE Spirit, soul and One Body. Adam had received a created kind of soulish life, breathed into his nostrils in the beginning. But Adam never had the “Spirit” within his soul. Only Jesus came filled with the eternal, Spiritual, Life of God at the core of His being. Adam was void of Spiritual life in the beginning. That is to say, there is nothing that is of man that was accepted by God, and that there is absolutely nothing that has its source from a created kind of life that is regarded of value to God. Has God not said?

“Cease yourself from man, whose breath is in his nostrils, for in what is he to be esteemed?” Isaiah 2:22 KJV.

The rhetorical question is meant to cause us to face the vanity of our natural life so that we will turn from the fleshly energy of self to be found in this One Who is eternal Life. This One NEW Man is Jesus Christ Head and Body. He alone is honored and held in the highest esteem before YHWH.

Now I understand that this view is commonly rejected because there are theologies that twist the scripture in attempt to prove that Adam had a kind of “human spirit” breathed into him in the beginning. The rational is that this is the part of Adam that died at the fall of man. But whenever this train of thought is followed to its logical conclusion, it portrays salvation and spiritual birth as nothing more than a restoration of man to a former state: a state where communion with God was external not internal. And it follows that being “born again” is just a recreation of the glory of man. True salvation is Jesus Christ being revealed in you as the Newness of all things. In the counterfeit salvation, old things are made new. And Jesus is not the center of this old creation, but man. All of this this is complete nonsense in God’s view. God has declared the life of first, soulish, man equal to animal life.

“For what happens to the sons of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.”. Ecc. 3:19 ESV.

Even though Adam has opportunity through the death resurrection of Jesus, to be received in a better place. A place where he is “in Christ”, and Christ is in Him; Man without the Spirit is nothing more than a beast. The view of a tri-part Adam,  is a view that is ignorant of God’s distinction between the first kind of man, Adam and the Second Man: Jesus Christ, both head and body. The false view, is a view where the restoration of the Old creation is the pinnacle of God’s Intention; instead of a New Creation filled with the eternal “Life-giving Spirit” of God Himself. This same separation between the two creations and two men can be seen right here in Isaiah 42:5 where it is written,

“Giving breath to the people on it, And Spirit to those walking in it.” Isaiah 42:5 ELT.

So YHWH said that “Spirit” and “breath” are two different things. “Spirit” is Gods Divine Life and “breath” here represents the life of the soul. Even though they may seem interchangeable when you read the definition of “Pneuma” in a Greek lexicon, but this idea doesn’t bear out in the Hebrew scriptures. The coming of Jesus fulfilled the judgment of the world as it is written,

“Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and One left. Mt. 24:40

It was the work of Christ that removed the old man from relationship with God and now Christ alone remains. So it is written,

“Behold, I come to do, thy will O God; He takes away the first that he may establish the Second” Heb. 10: 9.

The Second what?

The Second Man, the second Covenant, and the Second coming. Christ in you is the fulfillment of all three.

The judgment of the Person Christ Himself is a permanent seperation between the first who was a soul and “the Second” Who is the only Spiritual Man. This is one of the themes of the Book of Hebrews:

“The Word of God is living, and powerfully working, and sharper than every two-edged sword, and piercing deeply as far as the division of both soul and Spirit” Heb. 4:12.

In the coming of Jesus Christ we see this judgment between the first mankind,
Adam; who was merely a soulish life breathed into the nostrils of a body of flesh,
and Jesus: Who as The Resurrection, is the Head of One New Man.
He alone is Spirit, Soul and One Spiritual Body.

Let’s look again at Isaiah 42: where the Father is speaking to the Person of His Son, Who is the Second. He names Him exclusively “the Servant of God.”

“Behold My servant, whom I uphold, My chosen, in whom My soul delights” Isaiah 42:1. This declaration is fulfilled the appearing of Jesus at the baptism of John.

“It happened, in the baptizing of all the people, Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heavens were opened; and the Holy Spirit came down in a bodily form as a dove upon Him. And there was a voice out of Heaven, saying, You are My Son, the Beloved; in You I have been delighting Lk.3:22.

Isaiah 42 was God’s preview of this age ending event: the coming of Jesus. Gods voice out of heaven was a covenant changing event. The voice of God had not been spoken from heaven since Mount Sinai. Not in a way that God’s people as a whole heard God Himself speak. We often miss the significance of what God saw in the appearing of His Son here. But Jesus didn’t miss it. This change of ages from the Old Covenant to New had already taken place in the coming of His presence. That is why Jesus taught:

“For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John” Mt. 11:13.

Jesus said that the rituals of Law of Moses prophesied of His coming, and the words of the prophets were already fulfilled at the time that John baptized Jesus.

This is still an extremely controversial statement for Christians today.
You can hear the arguments:

The New Covenant wasn’t inaugurated until He shed His blood on the cross!
Jesus did not have a finished the work until He had conquered death and the grave on the third day! Or The New Covenant could not begin until the disciples began to experience the presence of the Holy Spirit. Right? No. No. Our proof text is Hebrews 8:13. The writer said that Old covenant was only “ready” to vanish away” The words of the prophets Old covenant could not be fulfilled until the destruction of Jerusalem! Only then did the first covenant become “old”.

But obviously these ideas don’t hold water with the way Jesus sees. He believed, “all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John” Mt. 11:13.

Why is the mind of Christ so contrary to our own? Is it because our own natural mind is so consumed with external works and events that we miss God’s eternal perspective. That is that…

His Divine Life is enough.

Before Jesus has preached One word.
Before He had performed one miracle,
before He has shed on drop of his blood,
The Person of Jesus was enough.

Before there was any external manifestation of Divine union,

His Spirit is enough.

“And as for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says YHWH: “My Spirit,” Is. 59:21 ELT.

Seeing the Person of Christ is the foundation of grace. It is the foundation of grace because your salvation is not based on what you are going to do for God in the future, but on the presence of His Spirit within, He is your Salvation. He is the source.

This is why when Paul writes “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? 2Cor. 13:5 KJV. His meaning is that you have passed this examination if you “know” that Jesus Christ is in you. Don’t let anyone lie to you that this is about examining your behavior to see if you are “Christ like” enough to be saved. Paul also wrote,

“If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His”. Rom. 8:9 because God’s Spirit is enough.

Man can be so focused on the finished work of Jesus (His death and resurrection) that we miss the person of the New Creation. When Jesus is declared to be The Son of God by the mouth of YHWH Himself the end of the old covenant age had already come to an end.

So God declared Him to be the Gift of God in saying “I give You.” (verse 6). And then He declares His gift to be our covenant.

“I give You for a covenant of the people”, Verse 6. That means that as an individual you do not keep the New Covenant. So the New Covenant it is “not I but Christ” Who is serving God. You can only be a vessel of this servant, (Gal. 2:20)
You abide In Him by faith. It means that Jesus Christ is the promise of God.
If God has made any promises to you, He has promised you His Son.

“For as many promises as are of God, in Him they are yes, and in Him are Amen, for glory to God through us.” 2 Cor. 1:20.

Its normal for the natural mind to look past Jesus to imagine God promising things beyond Jesus. But God has not promised you anything apart from His Son. Jesus is told the Jews the same thing when He said,

“Search the scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life: and they are that which testify of me.” Jn. 5:39.

God has promised you benefits in His Son. He has promised a new Heaven and earth, eternal Judgment, Resurrection, and He has promised a New Creation. But none of these are separate from Who He is.

Does God need to destroy planet earth, then create a new planet, before the New Creation could be fulfilled? The answer is no. It is also a false assumption that there will be be no more physical death in the new Heaven and earth. This belief is not based on what is written in the scriptures.

“I For, Behold, I am creating new heavens, and a new earth, And the former things are not remembered, Neither do they ascend on the heart. But you joy, and rejoice for ever, that I am Creator, For, behold, I am creating Jerusalem a rejoicing, And her people a joy. And I have rejoiced in Jerusalem, And have joyed in My people, And the voice of weeping, and the voice of crying is not heard in her any more. There is not any more a suckling of days there, And an aged man who does not complete his days, For the youth dies at hundred years old. And the sinner, a hundred years old, is lightly esteemed. And they have built houses, and inhabited, And planted vineyards, and eaten their fruit. They do not build, and another inhabit, They do not plant, and another eat, For as the days of a tree are the days of My people, And the work of their hands wear out do My chosen ones. They labour not for a vain thing, Nor do they bring forth for trouble, For the Seed of the blessed of YHWH are they, And their offspring with them.
And it has come to pass, They do not yet call, and I answer, They are yet speaking, and I hear.” Isaiah 65:17-24.

This is a description of a people in union with the Seed of YHWH: Jesus. In Christ you are part of the household of God. In Christ physical dying has no sting because though we pass away. We never depart from being in Christ. God’s Life cannot be extinguished.

Dispensationalist religion offers an interpretation that postpones any present enjoyment of a New Creation that is in Christ. It is unbelief. It is a teaching that postpones the present reality of resurrection into the New Covenant, and puts it off until some other future miracle.

Do the scriptures describe the New Creation as if it is yet to come?

“If any man is in Christ, he is in the New Creation: the old things have come to an end; behold all things have truly become new” 2 Cor. 5:14 ELT.

“Neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation” Gal 6:15.

No. The New Creation is now in Christ, not yet to come.

How is Jesus already be the New creation?
Paul is describing the New Creation when He writes:

“There is a natural body, and there is a Spiritual Body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a living Spirit.” 1Cor.
15:44-45.

Adam was created as a living soul who had a body. He was the first Old creation. You are part of that creation if you are not yet “born of the Spirit.” The New creation is the Man who has the Spirit of God present in His soul. Eph. 2:15 says that He is One New Man. The first creation was not inhabited with the Spirit of God. The New creation is the Spirit of Christ living in a people. “The Church” is another scriptural term for the New Creation. The Old creation was the first humanity. Though Adam was the crowning achievement of the natural world, he did not have the Spiritual Life according to Paul’s words, “The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a living Spirit.” 1Cor. 15:44-45. He is making a distinction the first soulish kind of man and the heavenly Man Who is a second Man.

As the Resurrection, Jesus became the Life giving Spirit. In our self-centeredness we like to think of Jesus’ resurrection as an example of another future miracle where we will get our own resurrected bodies. But in truth Jesus is our resurrection out from among a dead humanity into a pure and perfect relationship with God. Resurrection Life is Spiritual Life. This yours is NOW. Unfortunately dispensational religion rejects a Spiritual resurrection Body. So it is assumed that the resurrection of Jesus is fulfilled but our own resurrection is still unfulfilled until some glad day far away. But this view directly contradicts the Word of God. As it is written,

“knowing the time, that for us, the hour already is to be aroused out of sleep” Rom. 13:11YLT.

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God” Col. 3:1

“He revives us after two days, In the third day He raises us up, And we live in the sight of Him” Hosea 6:2 ELT.

When did Jesus raise “us” up? The Word of God plainly tells us,

“In the third day He raises US up.”

The issue is about our willingness to trade union in a true Spiritual resurrection for a false expectation of a resurrection of fleshly bodies. When so many are in unbelief concerning the present reality of the resurrection, they have been rendered powerless to receive the inheritance that is already theirs in Christ. And no wonder that there is so little unity among Christians since so many are still waiting for our Oneness. But the Body of Christ is already a Spiritual Body. As the Apostle Paul taught, “There is a natural body, and there is a Spiritual Body. And so it is written,“The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a living Spirit.” 1Cor. 15:44-45.

This Resurrection Body is already a Spiritual Body. When it is said that something is “Spiritual”, I often see a vacant look on the peoples faces. Because the natural mind too often defines “spiritual” as if its a synonym for something vague or without definition. People think if something is spiritual than it is not even “real.” No. The Word of God plainly tells us that this line of thinking is outside the truth. In reality, the Spiritual realm is more real than the tangible realm. Since this external world was given substance by the Spiritual realm Himself.

“By faith we understand that the ages were framed by the Word of God, in regard to the things are seen, they did not appear out from things that are seen” Heb. 11:3
Everything we can see and touch was created by “the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God” 1 Timothy 1:17.

There is nothing more substantive than the Spirit of the Living God. And if you begin to believe into Jesus you will begin to experience the “unity of the Spirit” in a way that you have never know before. This has to come before they can know we are Christians by our love.

“I therefore, as a prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the naming to which you have been named, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing one another in love, eagerly maintaining the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Eph. 4:1-3 ELT.

In reading commentaries about Ephesians I am surprised by the misunderstanding of the presence of His Spirit, and the ignorance of union with Jesus. It comes from “not holding fast the Head, from whom all the Body having been supplied through the joints and bands, and being joined together, will grow with the growth of God.” Col. 2:19 LITV.
But whenever we are believing into The True Resurrection that is now we begin to see what is true above. We begin to see the expression of the Head living in His Body. There is no separation in the mind of Paul. Here in Ephesians the Holy Spirit is urging the Church to abide in a unity that Jesus already is. Unity is not about creating a superficial environment where there is doctrinal agreement. And this is not about trying to quash disputes or find common ground among denominational leaders for a cause of unity. Paul is encouraging the Ephesians to maintain a union that Christ is. This is a unity that Jesus Christ is already the substance of. This a fellowship that is based on His presence in you. Christ in you is the foundation of our bond of peace. The key to maintaining this unity is all about knowing Jesus and relating with each other in the way God knows us. That is in Christ and thru Him. 1 Cor. 13: tells us how to walk in Love. It requires a kind of knowledge.

“Then I will know fully even as I am fully known” 1 Cor. 13:12 ELT.

This is walking in Love. This kind of knowledge requires revelation knowledge. It shows you Who Jesus is in His people. And in His Divine perspective, we see how the Person of Jesus Christ already is the New Creation the Resurrection, and the Life. It is Jesus living in His people.  As we experience the revelation of the Son of God, we are made to see that we have no life except in the One Spirit of God, living in His One Body, The Church. In fixing our hearts on Him we find that we are members together of a radical new humanity. It is a people inhabited by the living God Himself.

Are you knowing the union of Christ within His people?
Who is this “Christ in you”? He is:

“One Body and
One Spirit, according as also you were named in
One hope of your naming;
One Lord,
One faith,
One baptism,
One God and Father of all,
Who is over all,
and through all,
and in you all.” Ephesians 4:4-6 ELT.
