YHWH crucified

This post is kind of long so get yourself a cup of coffee and settle.

Do you know His Name?

“‘My people are taken away for nothing. Their rulers wail’, declares YHWH, ‘and continually all the day My Name is despised. Therefore My people shall know My Name. Therefore in that day they shall know here I AM, behold it is I Who speak.’ How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of Him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, Who proclaims Salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.” Isaiah 52:5-7.

Jesus is the Great I AM.
His coming is the good news of the Gospel.
He is the salvation and peace that was promised here in Isaiah.

There is this notion in the heart of the old man that God is pleased with having slaves. This comes from the “darkened understanding” (see Eph. 4:18). It is is a view that attempts to minimize His righteousness. Modern christianity has become a patchwork of soulish theologies constructed to cover our sin and bring God down to something that we can to wrap our natural minds around. This is the philosophy of the prodigal soul:

“I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.” Luke 15:19.

But in the parable, the Father is having none of this. Who our Heavenly Father is, is so much higher, greater than our own imaginations and concepts of Him. There is only one way to come to Him.

His Way.

That way is by the revelation of God in Christ. And His way has you clothed in the very best garments of His own beauty and Glory. God’s people are a people who are called by His Name.

“If my people who are called by My Name humble themselves, and ask and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” 2 Chron. 7:14.

The Bible shows that God has given Himself many names. “YHWH your healer” is a Name given by God in Exodus 15:26. Allah for example is not a God given name. It is man made. Adonai is another of His names. Adonai is a God given name. Adonai means Master or Lord. Lord is found 419 times in the Hebrew Scriptures. So there is a true relationship where He is “Lord” of all Adam and of all the earth. However this is an Old Covenant relationship. A New Covenant relationship is a relationship of freedom and union within God because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Notice that the New Testament describes the end of a Master/slave relationship in Adam and the inauguration of a New Covenant relationship in the Son:

“You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. I no longer call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his lord does. But I called you friends, because all things which I heard from My Father I made known to you” Jn 15:14-15.

“But I say, for as long a time as the heir is a child, even though he being lord of all, he is no different from a slave, but is under guardians and housemasters until the time pre-set by the father. So we also, when we were children, we were under the elements of the world, being enslaved. But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, having been born out of a woman, having come under Law, that He might redeem the ones under Law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because you are sons, God sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, Abba! Father! So that you are no more are a slave, but a son, and if a son, also an heir of God through Christ” Gal. 4:1-7.

Jesus also said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, Everyone practicing sin is a slave of sin. But the slave does not remain in the house forever; the Son abides forever. Therefore, if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed” Jn. 8:34-36.

Another example of how Yeshua has become your freedom is seen in the great Passover deliverance of God’s people out from slavery in Egypt and then His carrying them into the land of inheritance. This emancipation was a prophetic testimony of the freedom from slavery to sin, in Adam, and of our being carried out to be placed into an eternal inheritance. All this shows Yeshua to be the true deliverer and Lamb of God.

These are all examples of how the Spirit teaches that a master/slave relationship falls short of the relationship that Jesus died to give you.

You may love to serve God, but He has not made you His slave.

In the New Covenant, God makes Himself known as your heavenly Father. He also reveals the Spirit of His Son in you as the only true servant of God.

Come and see how the very Name of YHWH touches all of this.

He did not reveal Himself as “the Lord” from the beginning.

I should mention that His Name isn’t really God. In the Bible the word “god” is a generic term referring to all kinds of gods. In Hebrew this word is “El.” In English, believers capitalize the G to distinguish between the One true God and the god’s worshiped in other cultures. And that when men curse, saying things like “god damn” this or that, it is not technically a violation of the third commandment, (using The Name in vain). It is of coarse an expression of a wrong heart since this is speaking empty, disrespectful, words in anger as prohibited by Jesus on the mount in Galilee. But this is not the same as using the Name of YHWH in vain.

The Proper Name that God has given Himself is YHWH.

The name Jehovah is just as much a manmade name as Allah. As we continue on in this, we are going to look at how the Name YHWH was changed into “The Lord” also “Jehovah”. Unfortunately the name of YHWH has been removed from most English translations of scripture. Even in your Bible. Originally The Name YHWH is written in the Hebrew Bible 6970 times. His name is more than a term that merely refers to the Divine entity. YHWH is the written representation of Who He is. His divine name is the nearest representation of God in language;

The glorious name of YHWH is blessed forever. The Name of YHWH literally means I AM. As it is confirmed in Isaiah,

“You are my witnesses,” declares YHWH, “and My Servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I AM he. Before Me no god was formed, nor is there any after me. I, I AM YHWH, and besides Me there is no savior. I have declared and saved and proclaimed, when there was no strange god among you; and you are My witnesses,” declares YHWH, “and I am God” Isaiah 43:10-12.

It is God revealing Himself as the fullness and fulfillment of everything that He has promised, required, and prophesied. The title “The Lord” in most places is not actually a translation of YHWH but a tradition of man intended to keep the name from being used in vain. “The Lord” is also a term that affirms and reinforces the relationship that Adam has with God. For the believer in Christ this is the wrong relationship. Modern christian religion perpetuates this misunderstanding and the mistranslation of YHWH exacerbates the problem. The Name YHWH has been changed into “The Lord” almost 7000 times in most of our English Bibles.

Are we more comfortable with a “Lord” than the One Who has named you His “friend” (Isaiah 43:8) One Who we are unable to comprehend with our own mind?

Since God has not revealed Himself as “the Lord” in the vast majority of these these Old Testament verses, let us throw off this tradition of man and embrace Him in the light in which He has truly revealed Himself.

From the beginning He has always been I AM. And as we go on, we will show how He saw to it that The Name of YHWH was even written, on the cross above Jesus. He has not concealed Himself or His name from His people. This is something man has done.
David didn’t coverup the Name. He wrote,

“The name of YHWH is blessed, From now, and forevermore From the rising of the sun to its going in, the Name of YHWH is to be praised” Psalm 113:2-3.

YHWH is a God of revelation. And He unveils Himself. When God reveals Himself as YHWH, He is proclaiming Himself as the source of all things. And Who He is, shows that mankind is the source of nothing.

When did God reveal Himself as YHWH?

“God spoke to Moses and said to him, “I am YHWH. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as El Shaddai [God Almighty], but by My Name YHWH [I AM] I did not make Myself known to them” Ex. 6:2-3

The Lord declared His Name to Moses at the burning bush.

“Now Moses said to the One God Behold! When I come to the sons of Israel, and I say to them, The God of your fathers sends me to you, then they will say to me, What is His name? What shall I say to them? Then God spoke to Moses: I AM THAT I AM. And He said: say you to the sons of Israel, “ I AM has sent me to you. And God said to Moses: say you to the sons of Israel, YHWH, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My Name for the age, and this is the remembrance of Me for generation after generation” Ex. 3:13-15 ELT.

God has defined His own Name to mean I AM. He did not leave the interpretation or definition to man. You do not have to consult a Hebrew Lexicon or scholarly commentary. It is right there in your Bible. In verse 14 God told Moses to tell them, “I AM has sent Me to you.” and then in verse 15, “Say you to the sons of Israel, YHWH, the God of your fathers has sent” me. Whenever you look at the Name in the original language of the Bible you find the tetragrammaton in the Hebrew Scriptures. YHWH is written not Adonai. It does not mean Lord. These four Hebrew letters are pronounced: Yod Hey Wav Hey. It should not read “The Lord” in your Bible unless you believe you also should be protecting His Name from blasphemy or cursing. This was the reason the Jewish people began replacing YHWH with Adonai. But is this is unnecessary. Since you are under His protection; He isn’t under yours.

I AM that I AM communicates how He is present to produce His own Divine Life in you. HE IS the source of all that He is, and He produces His own increase. You cannot produce His increase. Your soul has never produced anything acceptable to God. HE IS the sum of all Spiritual things. YHWH fulfills everything that has been created typified, promised and prophesied. Therefore The Name YHWH is the expression of grace itself. More pointedly, I AM that I AM also declares how I AM not so that you can be any more. I AM THAT I AM. I AM declares that I AM all that I have created, promised, and required. And We are none of this, unless our souls are made into vessels of Him.

Some of your Bibles may read “I AM WHO I AM” for example the English Standard Version. This also muddies up living water. The word for “who” isn’t found there in Exodus 3:13. “Who” in Hebrew is pronounced “Mi.” When it says I AM THAT I AM, the Hebrew reads: Eh Yah Asher Eh Yah. Not Eh YaH Mi Eh Yah. So it should not be translated “I AM WHO I AM.” Asher is properly translated “that” as it in the KJV. It is a difficult expression in English because it can be so broadly used in Hebrew that it can seem to be all over the place. But it is simple enough to that He revealed Himself as “I AM THAT I AM”. YHWH was not trying to convince Moses that He is not an imposter. Since “I AM WHO I AM” would lend itself to the idea that God is trying to convince Moses that he is true. God wasn’t being defensive. He was not being cryptically evasive either. He is revealing Himself. It is our place to simply believe.

And if there is anything that I want you to take away from this word study it is this: God is present to cause everything of His own glory. It is not up to you. God has done it and He is going to continue to do it and you can bank on it. Everything of your sanctification, Salvation, and growth up into Christ is God’s own working in you. And we are to stake everything on this. So come and rest with us completely in His finished work.

Understand that the real reason that the Name of YHWH seems so obscure is because the natural man cannot face Him. Knowing the God of Glory comes at the loss of our own glory. The soulish man is ruled by a darkened understanding that makes the easiest truths the hardest to accept. Knowing YHWH is to know grace. There is much more to say about this.

Many of Literal Translations offer JEHOVAH the proper Name of God.

יהוה YHWH is also called the Tetragrammaton by those who assume the name YHWH is so mysteriously holy that no one really knows how say it anymore. But that is not how it was in the beginning. In the second century BC the Jewish community started a new tradition. To keep people as far away from blaspheming the Name as possible, they basically built a wall around a law (Lev.24:16) to protect GOD from blasphemy. It was thought that יהוה:(YHWH) was too holy to be spoken (except on the Day of Atonement.)

Now since the Name YHWH is in the scriptures almost seven thousand times, man’s religion felt that it had to do something about speaking the Name when they read from the Law. So it was decided that everyone will just say Adonai (Lord) instead when they read the Name. Unfortunately “Lord” became thought to be a literal translation of the Tetragrammaton, and this has been carried over by Christians into almost all our English Bibles. I AM has been removed from most of our English translations of scripture. Some of the Jewish people would say “HaShem” to show a reverence instead of just changing the scripture. “Ha, “is Hebrew for “the.” It isn’t a word by itself in Hebrew. “Ha” is tacked on to the word in the same way as we use a prefix in English. “HaShem” is the Hebrew word for “the Name” and it found is here in the 24th chapter of Leviticus:

“And the son of an Israelite woman, and he was a son of an Egyptian man, went out among the sons of Israel. And the son of the woman of Israel and a man of Israel struggled together in the camp. And the son of the woman of Israel blasphemed the Name [haShem], and cursed. And they brought him in to Moses; and his mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan. And they put him under guard, that it might be declared to them at the mouth of YHWH. And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, Bring out the reviler to the outside of the camp. And all those who heard shall lay their hands on his head, and all the congregation shall stone him. And you shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, When any man curses his God then he shall bear his sin. And he who blasphemes the name of YHWH dying shall die. All the congregation shall certainly cast stones at him. As to the alien, so to a native, when he blasphemes the Name [haShem],, he shall die” lev. 24:10-16.

To keep יהוה from being verbalized, the Jews inserted the vowels from Adonai (Lord) between the four consonants יהוה to help the reader remember to say Adonai instead of Yahweh when reading Torah aloud. The rabbis have plainly recorded all this.

“‘God whom they call “Lord.” This common nomenclature is the result of a long and complex development. In the Jewish tradition, the Tetragrammaton, הוהי, the four letter name of the God of Israel, is no longer spoken but is replaced by the reading adonai (יָֹנדֲא).”‘ Tradition and Innovation: English and German Studies on the Septuagint Martin Rösel Society of Biblical Literature Atlanta, 2018, pp. 291–316.

Also “Understanding The Name of God in Biblical, Rabbinic, and Medieval Jewish Thought by Hillel Ben-Sasson is an excellent reference book on this. Here are a couple more scholarly books that say as much for those who want scholarly verification.

“The meaning and pronunciation of YHWH , commonly known as the Tetra- grammaton (four letters),YHWH… “of Israel, which in the course of time fell into oblivion; (2) that it was pronounced “Yahweh,” rather than “Jehovah,” as had … doubt, the rendering Kyrios ton dynameon, Dominus exercituum, “the Lord of Hosts” -which we know is untenable, the word YHWH not being used.” Obermann, Julian. “The Divine Name YHWH in the Light of Recent Discoveries.” Journal of Biblical Literature, vol. 68, no. 4, 1949, pp. 301–323.

There is really no such word as Jehovah in Bible. It is a hybrid word man made to keep people from speaking the Name.

If you know a little about Hebrew you may be scratching your head asking yourself; but wait a minute I thought the original Hebrew didn’t have any vowels? And you would be correct. The Masoretic text was a later version of the Hebrew where they added indications of vowels. They were jots and tittles added about 700 AD. Some time later Christian monks in Germany where reading this text, not knowing anything about how the Jewish people were trying to restrict verbalization of YHWH, pronounced the hybrid word Jehovah. And they thought, AH HA! Now we have discovered the super secret Old Testament name of God….

Ah ha, His Name is Jehovah! And unfortunately, it stuck. And so this is why some literal translations (LITV and YLT) published Jehovah instead of Lord.

Sometime back I wrote a blogpost called “Jehovah and the Giratypus” Where I was showing the word Jehovah is like morphing the words platypus and Giraffe into Giratypus. The Name Jehovah is as much a silly man made word.

(My apologies to the Jehovah’s Witnesses).

Should we continue man’s tradition of cover up?

No. It is clear from the scriptures that יהוה was commonly spoken in conversation. Here Boaz says to Ruth,

If he is not pleased to redeem you, then I will redeem you, YHWH lives!” Ruth 3:14

“YHWH lives” was a common an expression before the prohibition of His Name because they understood back then that YHWH doesn’t really need anyone to protect Him. He is God. YHWH lives was probably used as an expression of assurance like people say today, “as sure is the day is long” or “As sure as eggs are eggs.” Here in Arkansas we say “Sure as shootin.” maybe because we have more guns per square inch than anywhere else in the world. But “YHWH lives” also says He lives and no other soul actually has Life unless His Spirit is living within that soul.

God has not called His people to veil His Glory or His Name.

The Name of YHWH was bought to fulfillment in the Person of Christ. The cross is the very manifestation of the glory of YHWH, The Great I AM. In the finished work of the cross Jesus “crossed out” the created life of man and replaced it with the Divine Life of YHWH. Both the Name of YHWH and the the finished work declare I AM, you are Not. So God caused the name YHWH to be written on the cross. Some have read this and somehow missed this point so I will say it again:

The Name of YHWH was actually written on the Cross of Christ.

“Pilate also wrote a title and put it on the cross. And having been written, it was: JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Therefore, many of the Jews read this title, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city. And it had been written in Hebrew, in Greek, in Latin” Jn. 19:19-20.

This is where we will show you the Name of YHWH was written, on the cross above Jesus. This inscription highlighted the first letter of these four words forming an acronym in all three languages. Now you can find plenty articles online giving reasons why it is far fetched. But I want you to understand that Greek, Latin and Hebrew in those days had no punctuation, and no spaces between the words, (Latin writers sometimes used hederas to separate paragraphs). But in general, if you have ever looked at a manuscript the letters just run together Scriptio continua. They wrote this way partly to save space on valuable parchment, but also because punctuation had not been invented. But there were different ways that writers would distinguish where one word stops and another began. Capital letters were used or at times the first letter of a word was written a little bigger than the other letters.

The Catholic church has traditionally made an acrostic from the Latin written on the cross so that INRI is still found on every crucifix since the first century. Because JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS in Latin was written: IESVSNAZARENVSREXIVDÆORVM. So INRI became basic abbreviation because the first letter was highlighted to show where each word begins.

And because ησοῦςὁΝαζωραῖοςὁβασιλεὺς τῶνουδαίων was the way this was written in Koine Greek, INBI also became the acrostic abbreviation written on all the crucifixes in Greek orthodox Churches. יהוה

In the same way, whenever the first Hebrew letters are made larger or in bold face it would be written: ישועהנצריומלךהיהודים Yeshua TheNazarite Andtheking TheJews. This is the proper way these four words were constructed in Hebrew according Dr. Eli Lizorkin-Eyzenberg of the Israel Bible Center. (https://weekly.israelbiblecenter.com/hidden-hebrew-message-pilates-cross/). Then the first letters of the Name YHWH form an acrostic abbreviation above Yeshua where he was crucified. There is also a fourteenth century painting by Fra Angelico highlighting the the Name of YHWH above Jesus Christ. The inscription in the painting reads in Hebrew, ישוע הנצרי ומלך היהודים.  This translates as, “Jesus the Nazarite and the King of the Jews.” Fra Angelico painted “and” because this is the way the original text appeared. “And” begins with Vav in Hebrew and it is tacked onto the beginning of a word in the same way as we us a prefix in English. I found this by looking at an interlinear translation of ū·me·leḵ 4428(e) וּמֶ֣לֶךְ in Genesis 14:8 (Look for yourself at https://biblehub.com/interlinear/genesis/14-8.htm) this one word literally translates: “and the King.” Then I found other Hebrew scholars such as Dr.Lizorkin-Eyzenberg confiming this.

It is no wonder that the Chief priests attempted to have it removed. Though John writes that when the chief priests speak to Pilate they deftly argue that they have a problem with Pilates scribe using of the definite article “The” King. They asked him to change the sign to read “a king” indirectly removing the name of YHWH from the cross, which was likely their true purpose. They would never complain to Pilate about the use The Name on the cross because the argument would require them to verbalize the Name of YHWh before Pilate. See John 19:19-22.

I know it is all complicated stuff that was lost in translation so that many will just categorize this as extra biblical speculation. However, this is the Truth. Jesus is God. That is the Gospel. And it perfectly affirms Who Jesus is,

“I and my Father are One” Jn. 10:30.

“And Philip said to Him, Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us. Jesus said to him, Am I so long a time with you, and you have not known Me, Philip? The one seeing Me has seen the Father!” Jn. 14:8-9

Jesus Christ “is the image of the invisible God” Col. 1:15.

In the Book of Revelation John writes: “When I saw him, I did fall at his feet as dead, and he placed his right hand upon me, saying to me, ‘Be not afraid; I am the First and the Last, and he who is living, and I did become dead, and, lo, I am living to the ages of the ages. Amen! and I have the keys of the hades and of the death” Revalation 1:17-18 see also verse 11.

This is the fulfillment of the words of Isaiah: “Who has planned and done it, calling forth the generations from the beginning? I YHWH am the First and the Last; I am He.” Isaiah 41:4

The name of YHWH requires knowing Him by revelation. You are not called to figure Him out with your own mind, or discover Him. He makes Himself known. It is not up to us to learn Christ or reveal Christ. Flesh and blood has not revealed Him and cannot reveal Him. He IS in you. And He is making Himself known. HE IS that HE IS.
There is a tremendous rest in this.

Why does His presence cause your heart to rest?

Because you are released from all your impersonations of Jesus to find His Life living in you, and you living in Him.

So live Life. His Life.

It never was about you.

“We preach not ourselves” 2 Cor. 4:5.

This is the preaching Christ alone. Period. We are not preaching a method. I am not proclaiming a message of saying the right words, as if saying the right Name will make something happen for you. The Gospel is not a formula, etc. This is not about adding “IN THE NAME OF YHWH” to the end of your prayers, It is about knowing Him in truth.

To face Him as He is, is to find our own end at the cross.

“I am YHWH; that is My name; and I will not give My glory to another, nor My praise to graven images” Isaiah 42:8 ELT.

There is a message in many Churches today that will tell you that Jesus died to enhance your life. Jesus died so that you can live. It says that God’s character is this:

And if you mean Jesus died so that you can live by God’s own Life, then Okay. But the Jesus who died so that I can live my own natural life is also a false god. The underlying deception is that He is a Santa Clause Jesus who died so that I don’t have to. This is a false religious christianity that romanticizes the slavery of the soul to God’s Spirit. Your soul was not kept alive to be become a slave of the Spirit. These two natures do not coexist together. We have lost our soul life at the cross. The cross of Christ has brought rest for the soul.

The New Covenant is Christ living in our stead not us living in His stead. The finished work of Christ has exchanged your heart for His. “YHWH lives.”

Paul wrote “to me to live is Christ” Phill. 1:21.

He did not say “For me to live is Christ” Although you have probably heard many say these words.

Can you see the difference?

And the name Adonai or Lord falls short of the glory of this exchange. In John 12:25 Jesus said “Whoever loves his soul-life loses it, and whoever hates his soulish life in this world will keep it for eternal life”. This also is about rest for the soul.

In the book of Joshua the Gibeonites deceived Joshua so that they might escape from death.

Why have ye deceived us, saying, We are very far from you, and ye in our midst dwelling? and now, cursed are ye, and none of you is cut off from being a servant, even hewers of wood and drawers of water, for the house of my God” Joshua 9:23-24

So what is this story really about?

These scriptures were written for our admonition. What was happening was bigger than Joshua. He made them slaves because he was deceived. This is about the deception of taking up a false cross. It is a common deception in the Church. Wouldn’t our own souls rather deceive us and live as slaves to teachings of men and external laws rather than be subject to the cross of Christ? Two cannot coexist together. You lost your soul at the cross. You have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Your soul is not kept alive to be made a slave of your Spirit. It is a false christianity that romanticizes the slavery of the soul to God’s Spirit. The cross of Christ has brought rest for the soul thru that death. God has destroyed the soul of Adam at the cross. Then Jesus was raised as both the Spiritual Life of every believer, as well as the restoration of the soul. So it is written,

“He restoreth my soul” Ps. 23:3

I AM that I AM communicates how He is present to produce His own Divine Life in you. HE IS the source His own increase. The Name Yahweh/I AM is the expression of grace itself. We cannot produce His increase. More pointedly I AM that I AM also declares how I AM not that you can be any more.

Who is God?

Who am I?

I am crucified with Christ.

One thought on “YHWH crucified”

  1. Daniel, Thank you for this post and sharing what he has shown you. I use to think I knew him but I realize more and more I realize I know much about him and love hearing truth but but that he hasn’t brought me to know him as he speaks in Son. How the old man wants us to believe we know him even by accepting these beautiful truths and being satisfied with that. Yet not Truly knowing him we are deceived in believing we have been accepted because we love the message. Waiting on Him to work for His purpose and glory. That it is all of him. Emily Aldinger
